Williams Street Repertory Lab Presents “BOSONS” at Raue Center
Williams Street Repertory is excited to present “Bosons” by K. Frithjof Peterson as part of its LAB new play staged reading series. Join Williams Street Repertory for a comedic journey of cosmic discovery at 7 p.m. on September 26, 2016.
When you look up, do you marvel at your place among the stars or feel too small to matter? These are the voyages of Karl and Lucy, two college kids who boldly go on a mission through worlds of subatomic particles and “Star Trek” to seek out which parts of us can survive against the cosmic backdrops of loss and loneliness.
On the inspiration for the play, Peterson explains, “I’ve heard other people make the argument that in the fabric of every story is a love story. I could see evidence of that in most of what I had written, but I’d never tried writing a straightforward romantic love story. So, that was something I wanted to try.”

However, as Peterson was writing, “the “romantic” part of the love story moved from something more traditional to exploring the confusion of sudden, unexpected intimacy. Does love at first sight exist? How is intimacy different than love? How does all that create confusion?” Peterson explains, “That is where the play wanted to go.”
“Bosons,” a new and unproduced play, was previously developed in Chicago with freelance director Laura Baker and dramaturg Rebecca Adelsheim and with Strange Sun Theater in New York. “I’m really excited about this reading with William Street Rep,” Peterson explains, “so that I can ask some more questions and get a new draft done this fall.”
Peterson’s work has been performed throughout the United States as well as translated and performed in Moscow, Russia. His other full-length plays include “Where the Whangdoodle Sings” (Generous Company) and “Bookmarks” (Finalist, The O’Neill National Playwrights Conference).
Peterson’s plays have also been finalists for The Kennedy Center’s National Ten-Minute Play Award, the Heideman Award and the Samuel French OOB Festival. His work has been developed with The Kennedy Center, WordBRIDGE, Fusion Theatre Company (Albuquerque), The Inkwell (D.C.), Strange Sun Theater (NYC), The Gift Theatre (Chicago) and Fox Valley Rep (IL).
