Coltrane’s 16-disc set was recorded over a 32-month period between 1956 and 1958. The package contains a 32-page booklet, which includes a historical essay from Doug Ramsey and a session-by-session breakdown by Carl Woideck. Featured in this collection, playing alongside Coltrane, are some of the jazz greats, including Sonny Rollins, Freddie Hubbard, Zoot Sims and Red Garland.

Davis’ 8-disc set includes his entire recordings for the Prestige label. The package contains the 17 recording sessions made between early 1951 and late 1956 and contains a 64-page illustrated booklet that includes rare photographs, full discographical details, and an extensive essay and analysis of each session by Dan Morgenstern, Director of the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University. Featured in this collection are some of the most influential jazz artists of all time including Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Sonny Rollins, Lee Konitz, as well as the original Davis Quintet: John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones.

The year culminates with a 90th-birthday celebration honoring Van Gelder, who made a monumental contribution to the label and to jazz in general.
