The-Family-Dynamic1From the iconic paintings of Norman Rockwell to the holiday snapshots on your Facebook feed, nothing quite says “We’re all happy together, darn it!” like the smiling family portrait. what happens behind closed doors? And what horrors do many of us endure to keep up appearances? The Family Dynamic is a night of short plays and spoken word poetry on the theme of family. Hear Chicago artists take aim at the societal structures that tear families apart — and uncover what’s truly lurking below the surface. Presented at Greenhouse Theater Center, The Family Dynamic features the short plays Home Free and Veronica as well as original creations by acclaimed spoken word poet Gregory Geffrard.

Biographies –
Writer Jay Paul Deratany won a GLAAD award for his most recent play “Haram, Iran,” and has been produced in New York, Los Angeles, and London. “Veronica” represents a return to form in his stark, aggressive style of poetic stories dealing with family, societal pressures, and the consequences of our mistakes.
Director/Producer Keaton Wooden is Emmy-nominated, and has produced with the Chicago Commercial Collective Ike Holter’s “Hit the Wall” and The New Colony’s “Five Lesbians Eating a Quiche.” He has produced work in Chicago, New York, and abroad as well. His latest directorial effort is a feature scifi comedy called LANDERS, which will premiere in 2017
Director Tara Branham has directed classics and new works all over Chicago, and has Assistant Directed at Steppenwolf, as well as Chicago-based Operas.
