Navy Pier’s Water Colors Presented by CIBC Offers Dynamic Jazz Performances Along the Lakefront
Navy Pier has teamed up with the Jazz Institute of Chicago once again to host Water Colors presented by CIBC, a free, live jazz music series featuring top Chicago jazz artists. Nearly every Friday from July 6 through August 24, guests can enjoy 90-minute sets at the Lake Stage in Polk Bros Park, with performances ranging from emerging new talent, to established and seasoned artists. This year’s lineup features reinvented brass band music fused with hip-hop, freedom songs through the jazz lens, classic New Orleans jazz, big-band tributes, young bebop players, afro-beat music from Lagos, renowned jazz vocalists, and one of the best up-and-coming trumpet players in the world.
In addition to its Friday lineup, the series includes two special weekend programs. On Sunday, July 15, the Chicago Latin Jazz Festival pays homage to Latin American influences in jazz, with performances by Chuchito Valdes, Ignacio Berroa and the Chagua-Ruiz Belvis Afro Latin Jazz Ensemble. On Saturday, July 21, guests are in for a treat with a concert adaption of Chicago’s biggest winter smash hit, Lettin’ the Good Times Roll.Presented in partnership with Kicky Productions, Lettin’ the Good Times Float stars, Felicia P. Fields and E. Faye Butler, will take the stage while accompanied by other talented musicians, such as Rajiv Halim, Ron Haynes, Charles R. Heath IV, Jeremiah Hunt, Frank L. Menzies, Norman Palm and Joey Woolfalk.
