Jesus Christ Superstar Film and 1971 Broadway Stars Visit Chicago for Easter weekend as Theo Ubique's revival plays to packed houses 1 The landmark rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice that provides a contemporary perspective on the last days of Christ will be celebrated in grand fashion in Chicago over the upcoming Easter Weekend, thanks to a happy coincidence of show business scheduling. As Theo Ubique’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar continues its run at the No Exit Café in Rogers Park (which following the complete sellout of its original run has extended through May 17th), the stars of the 1973 movie version of the musical will conduct Q &A’s and sign autographs for audience members in conjunction with screenings of the film at Hollywood Boulevard: A Cinema, Bar and Eatery in Woodridge, Illinois. Appearing in Woodridge from the film’s cast will be Ted Neeley, who played Jesus and Chicago native Barry Dennen, who sang the role of Pontius Pilate on the original concept album recording of Jesus Christ Superstar and played Pilate again in the 1971 Broadway production as well as the film version directed by Norman Jewison. Also appearing at the Hollywood Boulevard events will be Kurt Yaghjian (Annas), and Bob Bingham (Caiaphas), who like Dennen are veterans of the original Broadway cast as well as the film.

The Chicago Sun-Times called Theo Ubique’s production “a thrilling, altogether impressive rendering on every level and the Chicago Reader said “…the voices here are raw and arresting, and it’s impossible not to get swept up in all the goose-bump-inducing rapture.”
