Broken Nose Theatre is proud to announce the Chicago premiere of the Off-Broadway hit, My First Time at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 North Lincoln Ave., June 8 – July 28. My First Time features four actors in hysterical and heartbreaking stories about one’s first sexual experiences written by real people. In 1998, a decade before blogging began, a website, www.myfirsttime.com, was created that allowed people to anonymously share their own true stories about their first times. The website became an instant phenomenon as more than 40,000 stories poured in from around the globe that were silly, sweet, absurd, funny, heterosexual, homosexual, shy, sexy and everything in between. These stories were brought to life in the Off-Broadway hit My First Time in 2007, which ran for two and a half years and garnered media attention on CNN, FOX, MSNBC, “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” and even spawned its own iPhone commercial.
“I was surprised to learn nobody has produced this show in Chicago yet,” says director Benjamin Brownson. “This is one of the most universal of human experiences. It doesn’t matter where you live, how old you are, what you look like, your beliefs, your politics, your sexual preference, your income level, almost everyone has had or will have sex for the first time. But it’s still something we don’t talk about much, especially in a public forum like the theatre.”
The audience is more than just a group of passive observers at My First Time; they also have the opportunity to tell their own story. Before each performance, audience members are encouraged to fill out a short survey with questions like “Are you a virgin? Where were you when you lost your virginity? If your first sexual partner were here right now, what would you say to him/her?” The answers are then collected and incorporated into the show, which ensures each night has different twists and turns and allows a more personal conversation about this still taboo subject.
