Wright College Presents INSPECTING CAROL Beginning Nov. 9th
Stage Wright, the student theater organization at Wright College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, is pleased to announce the opening night of “Inspecting Carol” on Friday, November 9th at 7:30 pm in the Events Building Theater, 4300 N. Narragansett. General admission tickets are $10, and $5 for students and seniors. Tickets can be either purchased in advance at the Stage Wright Box Office or at the door.
This holiday season comedy is written by Daniel Sullivan and directed by Wright College Professor Tom Murdock. A play within a play, “Inspecting Carol” is a comedic depiction of a small town theatre company and the difficulties faced in presenting their annual production of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” The plot revolves around a theatre company on the verge of losing their grant money, and an effort to impress an inspector sent by the National Endowment for the Arts results in a case of mistaken identity. A colorful cast of characters is the set-up for what can only be a hilarious disaster waiting to happen.
“Bad theatre has never been so good,” Murdock says of the farce. “Inspecting Carol is a play for all ages but adults may get more out of the complex wit and dialogue.”
Since its inception over a decade ago, Stage Wright has produced over 25 plays. Students create the stage props, makeup and hair design led by the supervision of professor, club advisor and production designer Patrick Ham.
“Stage Wright provides a valuable creative outlet for talented Wright College theate
r students who are also eligible to receive college credit for their work on the production,” says Jim Palos, president of Wright College. “We are excited to host another season of this amazing theater experience, which offers the community stunning performances at a low cost.”
Proceeds from all ticket sales benefit Stage Wright to cover the costs of future plays and events. Additional “Inspecting Carol” show dates are November 10, 16 and 17 at 7:30 pm and November 11 and 15 at 2 pm.
