The Peninsula Chicago is again thinking pink for a purpose this October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Marking its sixth anniversary in 2016, the annual Peninsula in Pink campaign to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer charities is undergoing a creative makeover to become “The Art of Pink.” All of The Peninsula hotels worldwide will present a month of pink-infused art, dining and spa experiences for guests to enjoy.

In keeping with the global commitment to support innovative public art, The Peninsula Chicago has installed an art exhibit by renowned fashion photographer, Chen Man. The photo exhibit is part of the 10 piece original art series titled “Nao Nao” and is located on the Motor Lobby Level. The artist’s inspiration for this installation stems from the Beijing of her childhood, where feelings and emotions were not shared publicly, and the selfless act of scratching a loved one’s back with a nao nao could best convey feelings of sympathy and understanding. As a symbol of sympathy for the cause, guests are welcome to scratch off the pink overlay to reveal the image. The nao nao scratching devices are available for a US$ 5 donation to the charity. The art is being auctioned at the end of October, with the proceeds donated to breast cancer charity partner, Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

About Peninsula in Pink

Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women and the second-most common cancer in the world today, accounting for one in ten of all new cancers diagnosed worldwide, and nearly one in four female cancer cases. With these statistics in mind, The Peninsula Hotels decided to harness its resources and create the Peninsula in Pink charitable initiative.

Launched in Hong Kong in 2010, Peninsula in Pink is an annual event at all The Peninsula hotels in Asia, North America and Europe. Each hotel shows its support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October by creating pink-inspired afternoon teas, cocktails, dining and spa promotions and special events, with part of the proceeds donated to a local breast cancer organization.

Continuing The Art of Pink for the second year, each hotel will exhibit pink-themed artworks in partnership with Chen Man. An exclusive pink ribbon pin designed for Breast Cancer Awareness Month is available for sale in each hotel.
