Geja’s Café presents Bodega Piedra Negra Winemaker Dinner Monday, August 4th at 6:30 p.m
Geja’s Café, 340 W. Armitage Ave, continues its popular monthly wine series with the Bodega Piedra Negra Winemaker Dinner on Monday, August 4th at 6: 30 p.m. Guests will enjoy a taste of South America with the finest wines ever produced in the Andes. The quality of the terroir and the altitude of the virgin lands, combined with the continental climate and the presence of a pure source of underground water from the Andes produce award-winning wines.
In 1992, French winemakers François Lurton and his brother Jacques traveled to Mendoza to use their expertise and craft stellar Argentinian wines. With a strong family history of winemaking beginning in the 1600s, this would be the family’s fourth winery and the first in Argentina, located in the beautiful Alta Uco Valley. While it was nothing more than a semi-desert at the time, the two brothers were the first to see the potential the area had for vinegrowing.
“The Lurtons came out of the gate making world-class wines from an almost undiscovered region,” says Geja’s Wine Buyer Blake Farnsworth. “They raised the bar for South American wine producers. We just hope the affordable South American wine prices don’t rise as well.”
The evening begins with a 6:30 reception followed by dinner at 7:00 with a lively discussion of the evening’s wines. The four-course dinner features Geja’s house Salad, Cheese Fondue, Beef Tenderloin, Chicken & Jumbo Shrimp Entrée, and Flaming Chocolate Fondue and coffee for dessert. Each course will be paired with the appropriate wine. Cost for each dinner is $55 per person, which includes the wines and dinner. Tax and gratuity are included. Reservations are required for the dinners, and interested parties are encouraged to act quickly as the popular Winemaker Dinners tend to sell out quickly.
