SOME LIKE IT HOT is a brand-new Broadway musical comedy, featuring a book by Matthew Lopez (The Inheritance), music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman (Hairspray) and direction and choreography by Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon).  The musical is based on the classic MGM Oscar-winning film SOME LIKE IT HOT, which has been named the “Funniest American Movie of All Time” by the American Film Institute.

Set in Chicago when Prohibition has everyone thirsty for a little excitement, SOME LIKE IT HOT is the rollicking story of two musicians forced to flee the Windy City after witnessing a mob hit. With gangsters hot on their heels, they’re on the run as the newest members of the swingingest big band ever to cross the country. Can they hide in plain sight without completely losing themselves? Or will the mob, the truth, and maybe even love itself finally catch up to them?

SOME LIKE IT HOT will be co-produced by Roy Furman, Robert Greenblatt and the Nederlander Organization. The cast and additional creative team members will be announced at a later date.

MARC SHAIMAN (Music & Lyrics) co-wrote the songs and composed the score for “Mary Poppins Returns,” for which he was nominated for a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, a Grammy and two Oscars. He lost all of ’em. His other Oscar nominations have been for “Sleepless in Seattle”, “Patch Adams”, “The First Wives Club”, “The American President” and “South Park-Bigger, Longer & Uncut”.  Other film credits include “Beaches”, “When Harry Met Sally”, “City Slickers”, “The Addams Family”, “Sister Act”, “A Few Good Men” and “The Bucket List”.  For Broadway, he and co-lyricist Scott Wittman have written Hairspray (Tony & Grammy Awards), Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me, Catch Me If You Can (Tony nomination), and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.  Marc composed original music for the revival of The Odd Couple with Nathan Lane & Matthew Broderick and for the current revival of Plaza Suite starring Matthew Broderick & Sarah Jessica Parker. Television credits include “Saturday Night Live” (Emmy and Golden Globe nomination), “Smash” (Emmy & Golden Globe nomination), The Oscars with Billy Crystal (Emmy Award), and appearances with Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Lane, Jennifer Hudson, Jack Black & Will Ferrell, among others. He has co-produced/arranged recordings and performances for Bette Midler, Harry Connick Jr., Peter Allen, Eric Clapton, Diane Keaton, Patti LuPone, Steve Martin, Barbra Streisand, Robin Williams and many more. His online opus “Prop 8 – The Musical” was a Webbie Award winner and he and co-writer Mariah Carey were nominated for a Golden Globe for their title song for the animated film “The Star”.

SCOTT WITTMAN (Lyrics).  Tony, Grammy, and Olivier Award-winning lyricist, director, writer, and conceiver, Scott Wittman co-wrote the lyrics for the hit musical Hairspray (Tony, Grammy, Olivier Award winner) with creative partner Marc Shaiman. Wittman also served as an executive producer on the hit film starring John Travolta. Scott was nominated for a Golden Globe, Grammy, and two Emmy Awards for NBC’s musical drama “Smash”. While working on the show, he co-wrote songs for Jennifer Hudson, Uma Thurman, Bernadette Peters, and Liza Minnelli. Shaiman and Wittman’s original score for the Marilyn Monroe musical “Bombshell” was released by Sony Records. Scott & Marc’s Broadway credits include Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me, which Scott also directed, Catch Me If You Can (Tony nomination for Best Musical), and on Broadway, on tour, and at London’s Drury Lane Theatre, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He has created and/or written shows for Nathan Lane, Justin Vivian Bond, Christine Ebersole, Neil Patrick Harris (2009 Tony Awards), Sarah Jessica Parker, Bridget Everett’s Rockbottom at the Public Theatre, and Bette Midler’s Divine Intervention Tour.  He has collaborated with Patti LuPone on concerts and recordings since 1994.His notorious and legendary Downtown shows are in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Marc and Scott also wrote the score to Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns” starring Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Meryl Streep. Their song “The Place Where Lost Things Go” was nominated for an Oscar.

MATTHEW LOPEZ (Book) is currently represented on Broadway with his Olivier Award-winning play The Inheritance.  The production premiered at London’s Young Vic Theatre in 2018 under the direction of Stephen Daldry and transferred to the West End later that year.  The Inheritance is the most honored new play in West End history, winning an unprecedented five “Best Play” awards, including the Olivier Award, the Evening Standard Award, the London Critics Circle Award, the WhatsOnStage Award, and the Southbank Sky Arts Awards.  New York productions: The Whipping Man (Manhattan Theatre Club) and The Legend of Georgia McBride (MCC Theatre).   Other plays:  Somewhere (Old Globe, Hartford Stage), Reverberation (Hartford Stage), The Sentinels (Headlong Theatre, London), Zoey’s Perfect Wedding (Denver Center).  In 2019 he received the Literature Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

CASEY NICHOLAW (Director, Choreographer) is currently represented on Broadway as director/choreographer of Mean Girls (Tony nominations for Best Direction & Choreography), Disney’s Aladdin (Tony, Drama Desk & Outer Critics Circle nominations for Best Choreography), and co-director/choreographer of The Book of Mormon (Tony, Drama Desk & Outer Critics Circle Awards for co-director and nominations in the same categories for Choreography; Olivier winner for Best Choreography.)  Represented on the West End as director/choreographer of The Book of Mormon and Aladdin. NEIL MERON (Producer) has produced film, television, and theater that have earned a total of six Academy Awards, five Golden Globes, 22 Emmy Awards, two Peabody Awards, a Grammy Award, six GLAAD Awards, four NAACP Image Awards and two Tony Awards.  Under his company Zadan/Meron Productions, he has executive produced all of the acclaimed NBC live musicals including “The Sound of Music Live!,” “Peter Pan Live!,” “The Wiz Live!”, “Hairspray Live!” and “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.” The landmark broadcast of “The Sound of Music Live!” drew over 22 million viewers, giving the network its highest ratings in seven years and its first live network musical broadcast since the 1950s.
