Awkward Pause Presents URINETOWN THE MUSICAL Aug 7-17th

4720114Awkward Pause is thrilled to announce that it will produce URINETOWN, the musical (book and lyrics by Greg Kotis, music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann), directed by Elana Boulos with music direction by Evan Swanson. Awkward Pause will mount URINETOWN at The Flat Iron Building in August of 2014. URINETOWN will be Ms. Boulos’s directorial debut in Chicago.

URINETOWN is “a hilarious tale of greed, corruption, love, and revolution in a time when water is worth its weight in gold… The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides he’s had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!”

Awkward Pause has established a reputation for tackling musicals with off-beat heroes, and allowing the characters to truthfully tell their story while still embracing the “magic” of musical theatre. Ms. Boulos plans to illuminate the correlation between the satirical world of URINETOWN and the current lives of millennials in Chicago. Awkward Pause has assembled a dynamic creative team including

Elana Boulos (Casting Director/Company Member at Jackalope Theatre; Former Casting Associateat Two Birds Casting) as director, Evan Swanson as music director, Andrew Jessop (Director, Autobahn, Awkward Pause Theatre) as set/technical designer, Marie Mohrbacher as choreographer, Preston Reynolds (Bearclaw, Area IV Theater; Autobahn, Awkward Pause Theatre) as sound designer, Delia Ridenour as costume designer, Jennifer Betancourt (Company Member Awkward Pause Theatre) as props designer, Danielle Whaley (Stage/Production/Company Manager – Chicago Tap Theatre) as stage manager, Michelle Maurer as assistant director, and Erin O’Shea (Artist Director and Company Member Awkward Pause Theatre) as production manager. The cast consists of Neala Barron, Josh Bartlett, Clint Boylan, Sabrina Conti, Johnny Cook, Sadie Rose Glaspey, Luke Michael Grimes, Mike Hamilton, Hillary Horvath, Jay Mast, David Mitchell, Kiley Moore, and Tanner Munson, with Kelly Krauter as Hope Cladwell and Brandon Ruiter as Bobby Strong.
