CITY WINERY CHICAGO HOSTS PINOT IN THE WINDY CITY Unparalleled Roadshow from Oregon’s Willamette Valley Wineries Makes Its Midwest Debut Thursday, March 7

images On March 7, winemakers and owners head to Chicago to spread the great tradition of Willamette Valley wines. Following popular road show events in Seattle, New York and San Francisco, Pinot in the Windy City will showcase 62 producers from Oregon’s largest appellation at City Winery Chicago, 1200 W. Randolph Street. Organized by the Willamette Valley Wineries Association (WVWA), the trade and consumer events come in the wake of exciting recent Oregon vintages, most notably 2012.

A daytime trade event will kick off the day’s festivities, with a public consumer event to follow in the evening. Oregon’s flagship Pinot Noir will be on full display, poured alongside equally lauded white varietals like Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Riesling. Wines will be complemented by delicious passed hors d’oeuvres and Pinot-friendly bites.

This marks the first time the WVWA has visited the Midwest. Similar gatherings in other cities have drawn scores of attendees, each one a sell-out experience. The WVWA is hoping to attract 500 wine enthusiasts to Pinot in the Windy City. Front and center will be Pinot Noir, first planted in the state in the mid-1960s and consistently coveted by tasters and critics all over the globe.

“We’re beyond excited to be telling our great wine story to the people of Chicago,” said Sue Horstmann, Executive Director of the WVWA. “We’ve touched both coasts with our traveling events and look forward to sharing our wines in the great Midwest.”

“What people forget is that it’s about much more than the wine,” added Horstmann. “The interesting characters behind the label are equally as intriguing as the top notch wines in the bottle. This event sets taster and winemaker beside one another, making way for the great backstory behind every wine.”
