Celebrating 40 years, the internationally acclaimed mask theater troupe MUMMENSCHANZ is pleased to present a limited holiday engagement at NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, from December 11, 2012 through January 6, 2013.
Tickets go on sale today for the four-week run of MUMMENSCHANZ in New York City, a special stop in a series of U.S. dates that are part of a larger worldwide 40th anniversary tour by the legendary troupe, which has captivated audiences around the globe for four decades with its groundbreaking art form.
Recommended for ages 6 and up, the show will be a full two-hour production (with intermission), combining stunning new elements with some of the troupes most beloved creations and favorite fantastical characters. For the U.S. tour, MUMMENSCHANZ will introduce a new featured performer, dancer and choreographer Philipp Egli, of Zurich, who will join founding artist Floriana Frassetto and cast members Raffaella Mattioli and Pietro Montandon.
Showgoers of all ages and cultures are enchanted by the creative work of MUMMENSCHANZ, which endlessly appeals to generations of fans around the world, who come to witness the magic and wonder of the witty, weird timeless creatures and incredible colorful forms. The troupe creates a playful and uniquely memorable experience through an inventive use of forms, shadow and light and creative manipulation of sculptural, expressive masks. The result is a visually stunning spectacle of family entertainment that sparks the imagination and transcends cultural barriers.
PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE:
Performances of MUMMENSCHANZ will begin with a preview on December 11, 2012 at NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts (566 LaGuardia Place at the corner of Washington Square South), and the official opening night set for December 12th (12/12/12). The four-week limited holiday engagement is scheduled to run through January 6, 2013.
MUMMENSCHANZ will perform Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 7:00pm (except for Christmas and New Years Day), with matinee performances on Saturdays at 2:00pm and Sundays at 3:00pm. Matinee performances are also scheduled for Wednesday, December 26th and Wednesday, January 2nd at 2:00pm.

Ticket prices range from $48.00-$85.00; $35.00-$65.00 for senior citizens. Half-price (50%) discounted tickets are available on all performances for children ages 6 to 16 years old.

MUMMENSCHANZ FOUNDATION:
Currently in its fourth decade of existence, Mummenschanz mask theater is still one of the most successful theater groups in the world. Formed in 1972 by Swiss artists Bernie Schürch and Andres Bossard with artist Floriana Frassetto, the pioneering performance troupe has sought to create a non-verbal theatrical language that transcends the traditional barriers of nationality and culture. The group had its breakthrough during an extended Broadway run at the Bijou Theatre in New York City from 1977-1980. Never before or since has a show without words or music succeeded on Broadway for three consecutive years. Since then, the group has toured continuously around the globe, performing in renowned festivals and theaters worldwide. Following the death in 1992 of founding member Andres Bossard, original artists Floriana Frassetto and Bernie Schürch, with the help of long-time friend and supporter Hans Jörg Tobler, went on to establish in 1998 the Mummenschanz Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims to promote the art and expression of nonverbal theater. Mummenschanz has grown to a company of five. In June 2012, founding artist Bernie Schürch gave his farewell performance, and the troupe introduced Philipp Egli to join original cast member Floriana Frassetto as a featured performer, alongside performers Pietro Montandon and Raffaella Mattioli, and technical director Jan Maria Lukas.
