Steppenwolf Announces Full Casting and Directors for First Four Shows of 2018/19 Season

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is pleased to announce the complete casting and directors for the first four shows of its 2018/19 season: Downstate by Pulitzer Prize-winning ensemble member Bruce Norris; Familiar by Danai Gurira; La Ruta by Isaac Gomez; and A Doll’s House, Part 2 by Lucas Hnath. Milwaukee Repertory Theater continues its commitment to diversity and inclusion as well as promoting up-and-coming arts organizations by welcoming Feast of Crispian [FoC] as the new Resident Theater Company for the 2018/19 Season.  Feast of Crispian pairs professional actors with military veterans to create powerful Shakespeare productions that teach and strengthen emotional resources needed by veterans to overcome traumatic and reintegration issues.  Through the Resident Theater program, Milwaukee Rep is able to provide a performance venue as well as production, marketing and administrative support in order to assist Feast of Crispian during a critical growth moment. Feast of Crispian’s initial performance at The Rep will be spring of 2019 as part of the first National Veterans Theatre Festival, co-hosted by FoC and The Rep.  More information on the festival will be announced later this summer. This summer, the Museum of Contemporary Art offers select 2018 FIFA World Cup™matches for free in its popular new gathering space, the Commons. Museum visitors and soccer (football) fans of all ages are invited to cheer on their favorite teams while enjoying snacks and drinks from the Marisol counter, and exploring the exhibitions during half time. Navy Pier’s Water Colors Presented by CIBC Offers Dynamic Jazz Performances Along the Lakefront

Navy Pier has teamed up with the Jazz Institute of Chicago once again to host Water Colors presented by CIBC, a free, live jazz music series featuring top Chicago jazz artists. Nearly every Friday from July 6 through August 24, guests can enjoy 90-minute sets at the Lake Stage in Polk Bros Park, with performances ranging from emerging new talent, to established and seasoned artists. This year’s lineup features reinvented brass band music fused with hip-hop, freedom songs through the jazz lens, classic New Orleans jazz, big-band tributes, young bebop players, afro-beat music from Lagos, renowned jazz vocalists, and one of the best up-and-coming trumpet players in the world. Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s Associate Artistic Director May Adrales is the recipient of this year’s Alan Schneider Director Award. The award was presented late yesterday at Theatre Communications Group‘s national conference in St. Louis, MS.  The award is designed to identify and assist exceptional directors whose talent has been demonstrated through work in specific regions, but who may not be well known nationally.   With it comes a cash prize of $7,500, which may be used for travel, research or other activities specifically focused on the directing craft or related career opportunities.
