A renowned comedic filmmaker and the writer and director of The Blues Brothers, John Landis, combines two characters from SNL at the height of their popularity with soul tunes, car chases, special effects, Chicago landmarks, hilarious jokes and endless cameos by legendary musicians such as James Brown, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, and Aretha Franklin.  The main characters, Jake and Elwood, are former front men of a broken down blues band bringing together their old band members for a charity benefit to save the Catholic orphanage where they were raised.  Among the tunes memorably performed by Belushi & Aykroyd are “Gimme Some Lovin’,”  “Everybody Needs Somebody to Love,” and of course, “Sweet Home Chicago.”

“John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd running amok in Chicago with Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, James Brown and John Lee Hooker as their musical tour guides, and playing in a band with Duck Dunn and Steve Cropper? This is slap-stick comedy with soul,” said Kot

“We’re in Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, and the best movie ever made about R&B,” added Jim DeRogatis. “The lights are going down at the Music Box Theatre… and we’re wearing sunglasses. Hit it!”

Tickets for the Sound Opinions at the Movies screening of The Blue Brothers at the Music Box are $9 in advance for WBEZ members and $10 in advance for the general public online at www.soundopinions.org. Tickets will also be available at the door for $10 (cash only).
