Redtwist Announces 2013-2014 Season – 15 shows!

9Redtwist Theatre announces its complete line-up for 2013-2014 Season, which includes 15 productions, all at its black box, storefront location, in the Bryn Mawr Historic District of Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood. The complete season includes 7 Chicago premieres and 4 world premieres

There are five MAIN Season shows, which include at least 18 performances. Each of the five MORE RED (off night) and DARK RED (late night) series plays perform in rotating rep with the MAIN Season productions and primarily use the same set as the MAIN Season show.

Clybourne Park by Bruce Norris, Directed by Steve Scott

Oct 5 – Nov 10, 2013  (opens Sat Oct 5 at 3pm)
Featuring Redtwist company members, Jan Ellen Graves, Brian Parry, Michael Sherwin.
Pulitzer Prize winner for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play. Set is 1959 for Act I, and 2009 for Act II. Things get out of whack in a dazzling whirlpool of words, opinions, aspirations…and bigotry, from a wide cross-section of indelible characters from two different times: the quaint post-war era when everything was possible, and the mercurial post-modern age when nothing is certain.

Featuring Redtwist company members, Johnny Garcia, Jacqueline Grandt, Michael Sherwin.
A Chicago Premiere. A riveting drama one minute, a riotous comedy the next, Elemeno Pea is a blistering satire about how we humans deal with a critical non-living thing: money.

Happy by Robert Caisley, Directed by Elly Green
Feb 15 – Mar 16, 2014 (opens Sat Feb 15 at 3pm)
Featuring Redtwist company member Michael Sherwin.
A Chicago Premiere. A uniquely offbeat drama/comedy/satire about the choices we make and whether we are actually happy…or not. Fresh from her hit show, The Tomkat Project, Elly Green directs.

Look Back in Anger by John Osbourne, Directed by Jonathan Berry
May 17 – June 15, 2014 (opens Sat May 17 at 3pm)
This is the post-war British drama that started it all, said it best, and influenced every British playwright who followed. The long-awaited revival of this classic…by post-modern maestro, Jonathan Berry, who directed Redtwist’s production of Reverb.

Geezers by Tommy Lee Johnston, Directed by Jan Ellen Graves
July 26 – Aug 24, 2014 (opens Sat Jul 26 at 3pm)
Featuring Redtwist company members Brian Parry, Debra Rodkin.
A World Premiere. Tommy Lee Johnston, who penned the Jeff-Nominated play, Aura, introduces us to some beautiful and wonderful old folks who are enjoying their golden years in a retirement home.

A young married couple, both successful doctors, are embarking on their marriage and careers, when a college friend from hell arrives to wreak hilarious havoc on every morsel of their lives.

 

A Picasso by Jeffrey Hatcher, Directed by Josh Sobel

May 31 – June 23, 2014

A female Nazi officer is assigned to interrogate Picasso to authenticate three confiscated artworks. A genius at painting, Picasso is equally adept at playing cat-and-mouse.

 

The Size of the World by Charles Evered, Directed by Adam Goldstein

Aug 9 – Sep 1, 2014 (Chicago premiere)

The dreamer in all of us is revealed. Peter is a young man bursting with exotic ideas for mass success, but he has one limitation: he’s not very good at anything. And yet, a kindly elderly couple urge him on!

Redtwist resident playwright, Scott Woldman, reveals his unique perspective when it comes to the “Luv Cycle” of relationships, from dating and courtship to love and marriage…and beyond. There have been loads of love stories and reams of romantic comedies, BUT there has never been anything quite like Scott’s “Luv Cycle.”
