"Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill" Begins Performances Sept 9 at Milwaukee Rep 1 Milwaukee Repertory Theater  launches the Stackner Cabaret 2016/17 Season with Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill. Back by popular demand this intimate evening captures one of the last performances in the life of jazz and blues phenome Billie Holiday.  Alexis J. Rogers reprises her Jefferson Award-winning role as Lady Day herself with Abdul Hamid Royal (Sirens of Song) as Jimmy Powers on piano.  With show stopping numbers like “God Bless the Child,” “Strange Fruit,” and “What a Little Moonlight Can Do” Lady Day shares her loves and losses in this award-winning musical fresh from its Broadway revival.

Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill features direction by Leda Hoffman (The Amish Project), music direction by Abdul Hamid Royal(Sirens of Song), set design by J. Michael Griggs (Illinois Theatre’s Long Lost), costume design by Jason Orlenka (The Devil’s Music: The Life and Blues of Bessie Smith), lighting design by Christine BInder (Lookingglass Theatre) and sound design by Victoria Deiorio(Back Home Again).

Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill begins performances September 9 and runs through October 30 in the Stackner Cabaret.  Tickets can be purchased online at www.milwaukeerep.com, by phone at 414-224-9490 or in person at the Ticket Office (108 E.
