DR. PHILLIPS CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR LOCAL SINGER/ACTOR ON OCTOBER 9-10, 2014

drphillipsThe Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts is seeking an Orlando-based singer between the ages of 9—14 to perform in Broadway & Beyond at the Walt Disney Theater on November 15. The selected singer will make her debut in a solo number with an all-star, professional Broadway cast for the Grand Premiere of Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, Presented by Dr. Phillips Charities and Balfour Beatty Construction. The show is under the direction of renowned Broadway producer Richard Jay-Alexander and musical director Mary-Mitchell Campbell. Jay-Alexander will host the auditions with leaders from the Dr. Phillips Center.

The 90-minute show will feature performances from renowned vocalists and stars from the Great White Way, including: Norm Lewis, the current Phantom on Broadway; leading soprano, Deborah Voigt; rising Latin superstar, Ektor Rivera; world-renowned Argentinian dance duo, The Lombard Twins; The Broadway Kids; Sierra Boggess (Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, The Little Mermaid); NBC The Voice’s, Chris Mann; legendary jazz singer, Jane Monheit; popular all-male singing string quartet, Well-Strung; YouTube sensation, Jeremy Green; and a full 26-piece orchestra, made up of members of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. Director Richard Jay-Alexander has discovered many young talents including actresses Lacey Chabert and Lea Michele, and Rider Strong. He also gave Broadway debuts to stars such as Ricky Martin, Shanice, Catherine Hickland, and Debbie Gibson. In addition to his Broadway career, Jay-Alexander has worked in concert with Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler, Johnny Mathis, Kristin Chenoweth,

Bernadette Peters, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Norm Lewis, Donna McKechnie, Andrea

McArdle, Betty Buckley, Polly Bergen and countless others.

REQUIREMENTS

Singers must be Central Florida females between the ages of 9 and 14 (no exceptions). Bring sheet music for your audition song. Music must be in your key and clearly marked with beginning and end points. Also, be prepared to sing Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg’s Over The Rainbow (from “The Wizard of Oz.”) Performers must be accompanied by the supplied accompanist – there will be no backing tracks, no a cappella and no Karaoke. A parent or guardian must accompany each child, but will not be admitted in the audition room. Please bring a current photo (professional headshot is not required) and be prepared to fill out an informational form upon arrival.
