Broadway In Chicago Announces Workshops for Chicago Public School Students 1 The PrivateBank will sponsor two Broadway In Chicago musical theatre workshop programs on Wednesday, August 17 to foster arts education and provide first-hand theatre industry experiences to Chicago youth.  The Musical Theatre Workshops will be comprised of over 150 students from Gallery 37 who signed up from thirteen different high schools in the Chicagoland area and will take place in two sessions from 9 – 11 AM and 1 – 3 PM on August 17 at The PrivateBank Theatre (18 W. Monroe).

The musical theatre workshops will include the following activities:

  • Auditions 101 (led by professional director and actor) – students will learn tricks of the trade and what to expect in a professional audition setting.
  • Dance Callback (led by two professional choreographers) – students will get to experience the fast-paced nature of a dance callback and receive advice on how to shine and leave a lasting impression.
  • Intro Ensemble Improv (led by two professional improvisers) – students will engage in fun warm-up and ensemble-building games, as well as learn tips for supporting a fellow performer on stage.
  • Vocal Care (led by a professional music director and vocalist) – students will gain guidance regarding care for their voices and have the opportunity to ask questions regarding singing and vocal care.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMS

HiDef Dance Ensemble is a dynamic hip-hop based dance program that fuses urban movement and popular culture. Teens learn and create performance pieces highlighting relevant social issues using music and ideas inspired by urban artistic expression. Top industry choreographers visit the program to inspire teens to train for the professional dance world. (Instructors: Tanji Harper, Dorian Rhea and Brandy Ford)

HHVocal performs music from various genres, as well as work on perfecting their professional performance techniques and skills. The singers receive master classes, one-on-one vocal sessions and training in music pedagogy with an emphasis on theatrical and dance movements to round out their musical training.
