Academy Award nominated actor Michael Shannon hosts A Red Orchid Theatre’s 20th Anniversary Bash at Metro

aJoin Academy Award® nominated actor and A Red Orchid Theatre co-founding ensemble member Michael Shannon on Monday, July 29 for a celebration of A Red Orchid Theatre’s 20th Anniversary.  The anniversary celebration will be held at Chicago’s storied concert hall Metro and will feature live music by Ben Nichols (of Lucero); Michael Shannon’s band, Corporal; The Blind Staggers; and special guest Steely Danish. All proceeds from the event will benefit A Red Orchid Theatre.

The event will take place at Metro, 3730 N. Clark Street, Chicago. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Guests must be 18 and over.  A limited amount of VIP tickets are available which include admission for two, reserved seating in the balcony and four drink tickets.

Tickets:

General Admission: $15.

VIP Ticket: $100.

Guests must be 18 and over. Valid State or Federal ID required for entry.

Limited capacity and all tickets are subject to availability. All sales are final.

Proceeds will benefit A Red Orchid Theatre.

High society meets low life in the slippery netherworld of thoroughbred racing. This tragic-comedy explodes when a simple phone call threatens to undo years of blackmail and false identities. Loyalties run fierce or run completely a-muck as Vinnie and Carter reunite in hopes of settling an old score.

Simpatico features A Red Orchid ensemble members Michael Shannon (HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire,” Man of Steel) who most recently appeared at AROT in the world premiere of Craig Wright’s Mistakes Were Made; Guy Van Swearingen, most recently seen in the world premiere of Brett Neveu’s The Opponent; Mierka Girten, most recently seen as the title role in Becky Shaw; Jennifer Engstrom also seen in Becky Shaw; and Doug Vickers, most recently seen at A Red Orchid in The Mandrake.

About Michael Shannon:

Michael Shannon, currently appearing as the villain General Zod in MAN OF STEEL, is a Founding Ensemble Member of A Red Orchid Theatre, currently plays the role of Agent Nelson Van Alden on HBO’s celebrated drama “Boardwalk Empire.”  Michael recently starred in The Iceman and in the award winning film Take Shelter and was nominated for an Academy Award for Revolutionary Road.   Michael originated the role of Peter in Tracy Letts’ Bug, which had its Chicago Premiere at A Red Orchid before playing off-Broadway and being adapted into a major motion picture, also starring Shannon. He has performed on numerous Chicago stages and is currently appearing in Uncle Vanya at New York’s Soho Rep. In the fall of 2012, he will perform in the Broadway production of Grace, a play written by fellow Red Orchid Ensemble Member Craig Wright.  Michael is currently performing on A Red Orchid’s stage in Sam Shepard’s Simpatico.
