2012 Lakeview East Festival of the Arts Sept. 8th & 9th
The Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce is proud to host and produce the 2012 Lakeview East Festival of the Arts. The Festival, now in its eighth year, takes place Saturday, Sept. 8 and Sunday, Sept. 9 in Lakeview, a dynamic and diversified neighborhood community rich in culture, history and the arts, from Belmont Ave. to Roscoe Street. The 2012 Lakeview East Festival of the Arts showcases more than 150-juried artists featuring world-class original paintings, sculpture, photography, furniture, jewelry and more. In addition to the artists’ booths, the Festival features live music with beer and wine gardens, an area curated by Project Onward, an interactive urban picnic oasis by Patch Landscaping, interactive children’s area featuring a puppet show, and much more. The Lakeview East Festival of the Arts asks for a $5 donation upon entrance and those donate can be entered to win roundtrip tickets to any scheduled destination serviced by Southwest Airlines. The hours are Saturday, Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday, September 9 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Visit http://www.
New to the festival this year is an exhibit curated by Chicago’s Project Onward, a studio and gallery dedicated to the creative growth of artists with mental and developmental disabilities. In addition to displaying and selling original works of art, Project Onward’s major focus for the weekend will be to provide portrait sittings with Project Onward artists to festival attendees. To learn more about Project Onward visit www.projectonward.org/
The Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce also welcomes Patch Landscaping in 2012. Patch Landscaping will be creating an interactive garden area from Roscoe to Hawthorn Streets. The urban oasis will feature an oversized chess game, allowing festival attendees to play a chess game game that will be on display to all in the garden area. Also featured in the colorful picnic-themed area will be rolling hills, a boulder wall where people can sit and relax next to sandboxes filled with children’s toys and birch trees as high as 12 feet.
Each year the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce Festival Committee selects an artist to create a featured image for the Festival of the Arts. This year’s artist selection is Minneapolis-based artist Dewey James, a mixed-media artist whose work “Highwire” was selected to represent the festival this summer.
