Broadway’s original magical nanny, Ashley Brown, will release a solo album of American Songbook standards this November on iTunes and in stores this January. This will mark the Poppins star’s first solo recording.
Produced by David Lau, “Speak Low” will be released by Ghostlight Records and distributed by Sony. An in-store release date has been set for Jan. 12, 2010, with an early digital release beginning Nov. 10 on iTunes.
Brown will lend her prodigiously gifted vocals to a variety of tunes, including new arrangements of both American and musical classics such as “Smile,” “Make Someone Happy,” “My Funny Valentine,” “I’ll Be Seeing You,” “My Only Love” and “The Very Thought of You.”
In addition to originating the title role in the Broadway production of Disney’s Mary Poppins (as well as the current national tour), Brown appeared as Belle in the Broadway run of Beauty and the Beast as well as Disney’s On the Record, which was seen on a national tour. Her future concert dates include engagements with the Baltimore Symphony, Ottawa Symphony, Naples Philharmonic Orchestra, Pensacola Symphony and a show at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency.
