Come and meet those dancing feet as Theatre at the Center presents the winner of the 1980 Tony Award for “Best New Musical” and the 2001 Tony Award for “Best Revival of a Musical”, 42ND STREET.  The biggest production to ever be presented on Theatre at the Center’s stage, this heart pounding, foot stomping spectacular runs September 13 through October 21 at 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, with a press performance September 16.  Based on the classic 1933 Busby Berkeley movie musical of the same name, 42ND STREET is one of the longest running productions in Broadway history, having played for a staggering 9 years, for a total of 3,486 performances. With a book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, music by three-time Academy Award-winning composer Harry Warren and lyrics by Al Dubin, 42ND STREETfeatures a memorable score including the show stopping numbers We’re in the Money, You’re Getting to be a Habit With Me, Lullaby of Broadway, and of course, 42nd Street. Theatre at the Center’s Artistic Director William Pullinsi will direct with Choreography by Linda Fortunato. Chicago Shakes Announces Casting for Gary Griffin’s ‘Sunday In The Park With George’ & More

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST), recipient of the 2008 Regional Theatre Tony Award®, announces casting for the 2012 Fall Season. The Tony Award® and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, Sunday in the Park with George by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine will be staged by CST Associate Artistic Director Gary Griffin, September 26–November 4, 2012 in CST’s Courtyard Theater. The production featuresJason Danieley, recently seen on Broadway as Dan in the musical Next to Normal, and Carmen Cusack, known to Chicago audiences through her role as Elphaba in the Broadway tour of Wicked. The season continues with The School for Lies by David Ives, adapted from Moliere’s The Misanthrope and staged by CST Artistic Director Barbara Gaines, December 4, 2012–January 20, 2013 in CST’s Courtyard Theater. Featured in the production are longtime Stratford Shakespeare Festival actors Deborah Hay and Ben Carlson, who was last seen on CST’s stage in the title roles in Hamlet andMacbeth, and veteran CST actor Greg Vinkler. The first time I saw Marvin Hamlisch, he was playing piano at Carnegie Hall. It was May 6, 1972 and the occasion was “An Evening With Groucho.”  My childhood hero, Groucho Marx, was performing a show of reminiscences, comedy and song, and Hamlisch was his accompanist. The audience, jammed with knowledgeable Groucho-philes, responded favorably to his glissandos and general keyboard mastery.
