Joffrey Ballet presents four World Premieres by ALAANA artists March 11-12

February 14, 2017 The Joffrey Academy of Dance, Official School of The Joffrey Ballet in collaboration with Chicago Public Library present four world premieres in the seventh annual Winning Works program, the culmination of Joffrey’s national call for ALAANA (African, Latino(a), Asian, Arab and Native American) artists to submit applications for the Joffrey Academy’s Seventh Annual Winning Works Choreographic Competition. This year’s Competition winners – Shannon Alvis, Sean Aaron Carmon, Karen Gabay and Jimmy Orrante each have choreographed an original work created on the Joffrey Academy Trainees and Studio Company. The Joffrey Academy of Dance’s Winning Works program is presented at the Cindy Pritzker Theater, Chicago Public Library Harold Washington Center, 400 South State Street, over three performances only: Saturday, March 11, at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM and Sunday, March 12 at 2:00 PM. Lyric Opera, LA Opera & The Joffrey Ballet present major new co-production of “ORPHEUS & EURYDICE”

Lyric Opera of Chicago and LA Opera announce a new coproduction of Orphée & Eurydice, composer Christoph Willibald Gluck’s most popular work, to be directed by internationally acclaimed Director and Chief Choreographer of The Hamburg Ballet, John Neumeier. The Joffrey Ballet will be featured in performances at both Lyric Opera and LA Opera. This will be the first collaboration between Lyric Opera of Chicago, LA Opera and The Joffrey Ballet. Read more

Legendary Choreographer Bill T. Jones makes Chicago appearance courtesy of Art AIDS America Jan. 27

Award-winning artist, choreographer, dancer, theater director and writer Bill T. Jones makes a rare Chicago appearance in a free presentation the DuSable Museum of African American History, 740 East 56th Place (57th Street and South Cottage Grove Avenue), Friday evening, January 27, at 7 p.m., in association with the Alphawood Foundation’s groundbreaking visual arts exhibition, Art AIDS America Chicago.  Jones, a passionate HIV+ artist, will offer a one-night-only presentation with video, readings and photographs woven into the fabric of the evening.   This program is free and open to the public; a $10 suggested donation will benefit the DuSable Museum.
