Montrose Room & SmoothChicago.com Launch Jazz Series 1 This month, The Montrose Room in Rosemont, in collaboration with SmoothChicago.com, will launch its ongoing monthly Jazz Series featuring a number of renowned, internationally recognized artists at each show. The kickoff concert on Saturday, September 29, will be a “WNUA FM - 25th Anniversary Listener Reunion Party & Show" hosted by former WNUA radio personality Rick O’Dell. Other WNUA FM Radio personalities will also be on hand, including Bill Cochran and Scott Adams. This month, The Montrose Room in Rosemont, in collaboration with SmoothChicago.com, will launch its ongoing monthly Jazz Series featuring a number of renowned, internationally recognized artists at each show. The kickoff concert on Saturday, September 29, will be a “WNUA FM – 25th Anniversary Listener Reunion Party & Show” hosted by former WNUA radio personality Rick O’Dell. Doors will open at 6:30 PM and the party/show will be from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM. There will be performances from top national Smooth Jazz artists throughout the evening along with ticket giveaways for upcoming Montrose Room Jazz shows. Guests can enjoy the entertainment in an intimate setting with multiple seating options.

Information on the artists performing at the first show in the series, along with ticket information, is below:

Nick Colionne: With a jazz style that is both urban and contemporary, Nick Colionne has blazed a trail to the top of the ranks of today’s stars. Combining jazz, R&B, blues and funk, he has an unmistakable sound and vibe that is instantly recognizable. Nick takes the guitar to unexpected places every time he performs and his rich baritone vocals delight his audiences.

Steve Cole: A native of Chicago, Illinois, saxophonist Steve Cole studied music at Northwestern University, and business at the University of Chicago. Initially classically trained, Steve had the honor of performing as soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the age of 18. Cole opted to focus on his true musical loves, Jazz, Pop and R&B. Steve began gigging frequently on the local Chicago music scene as a session player, playing on countless national commercial spots, contributing to a number of soundtracks on the A&E network, as well as composing and performing music with keyboardists Bob Mamet and Brian Culbertson.

 

Steve Oliver: Steve Oliver is a California based guitarist and vocalist who performs in every style from Jazz and Pop to Latin and World Music.Influenced by acts such as Genesis and Yes, in his early years Oliver played steady gigs in and around central California as a one-man-band. Oliver’s debut album, “First View” landed on many critics’ top ten lists and earned him the Best New Artist award from Smooth Jazz News. Before going solo, he collaborated with former Rippingtons percussionist Steve Reid in the Bamboo Forest project.

 

Paul “Shilts” Weimar: Former “Down to the Bone” front man Paul “Shilts” Weimar hails from London, England and has been playing saxophone since his early teens. His career has spanned all forms of jazz, soul and pop music, and he has toured all over the world and recorded with a host of international artists. As a teenager Paul cut his teeth when he was asked to join the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Great Britain at the age of 15. It was with NYJO that Paul originally got a taste for the business, backing such great jazz stars as Nancy Wilson, Buddy Greco, Rosemary Clooney, George Shearing and Mel Torme, to name but a few, and has done major recordings with artists like David Bowie, Dina Carroll and Bill Wyman, among others.
