Broadway In Chicago Announces CHEERS LIVE ON STAGE To Run Sept. 20- Oct. 23

Broadway In Chicago, Stageworks Media and TROIKA Entertainment are pleased to announce that tickets for CHEERS LIVE ON STAGE go on sale to the general public on Friday, July 22. The tour, which is a comedy based on the best and most memorable moments from the Emmy® Award-winning classic hit TV series, will play the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place (175 E Chestnut) September 20 through October 23, 2016.

Set in the interior of the iconic neighborhood bar (where drinking all day is the Norm!), audiences will laugh along with Carla, Coach, Cliff, and Norm, as Sam “Mayday” Malone and Diane “Buzzkill” Chambers meet for the first time, share a first kiss and a first fight.

The two-act comedy is being adapted for the stage by theatre, television, and film veteran Erik Forrest Jackson and directed by award-winning director Matt Lenz. The creative team includes Michael Carnahan (Scenic Designer), Michael McDonald (Costume Designer), and Philip S. Rosenberg (Lighting Designer). The live show adaptation will be brought to life by Stageworks Media and TROIKA Entertainment. Casting will be announced at a later date.

“Cheers,” ranked one of TV Guide’s “50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time,” aired for eleven seasons between 1982 and 1993. It garnered top 10 ratings for seven of its eleven seasons and often earned the number one ranking in the weekly Nielsens.  The show received 26 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globe Awards.

Creative Team Bios

ERIK FORREST JACKSON (Adaptor). Four of Jackson’s plays have premiered in NYC at Off-Broadway’s Performance Space 122: his comic adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie; the tongue-in-cheek thriller Tell-Tale (transfer to Off-Broadway’s Cherry Lane Theater, GLADD nomination best play of the year); Doll, a twisted take on Ibsen’s A Doll’s House;and the comedy with music Charlie! Jackson’s most recent play, the darkly comic dramaLike a Billion Likes, is a finalist for the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center’s 2016 Playwrights Conference. His musical Breaking Up is Hard to Do-co-written with Ben Winters and featuring the songs of Neil Sedaka-was developed at Capital Rep in Albany and the Actors’ Playhouse in Miami and has since been seen across the globe as part of Theatrical Rights Worldwide’s catalog. Jackson was a staff writer and story editor for Here TV’s supernatural series “Dante’s Cove.” He also penned the screen adaptationof his play Charlie! The movie premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and subsequently screened at festivals worldwide. His script Heartbreaker was a finalist for the Outfest Screenwriting Lab, and his poems appeared in the Showtime film The Escape, starring Patrick Dempsey. He is the playwright-in-residence for New York’s Theatre Couture and a member of the American Theatre Wing’s Advisory Board. Jackson is also the Executive Projects Director atEntertainment Weekly magazine.

MATT LENZ (Director) is an award-winning New York based director who has worked on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and in theatres all over the world. Most recently, Matt directed Pageant: The Musical (2014 Drama Desk nomination for Best Revival of a Musical) and the hit comedy The Irish Curse. Other New York credits include: Idaho! for New York Musical Theatre Festival (2008 Fest Awards winner for Best Director and Best Show, upcoming production at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts), Susie Mosher’sThe Great Daisy TheoryFingers And Toes at NYMF, the Off-Broadway premiere of Alan Ball’s The Amazing Adventures Of Tense Guy, and Wicked’s 5th Anniversary Celebration: The Yellow Brick Road Not Taken at the Gershwin Theatre on Broadway.

Matt served as the Associate Director on original Broadway productions of Hairspray (and subsequent tours and multiple sit-down productions), Catch Me If You CanThe Velocity of Autumn, and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
