CHICAGO MAGAZINE Debuts Culture Festival in September
In conjunction with its October 2015 Fall Culture Guide issue, Chicago magazine will debut the inaugural Culture Festival, an exciting day-long, five-program event that incorporates intimate performances, on-stage interviews, and audience interaction with top creative artists in Chicago and beyond. The festival will be held on Saturday, September 26, at Venue SIX10 (610 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago).
“Architecture, literature, theater, comedy, music—Chicagoans are passionate about all of them,” notes Elizabeth Fenner, editor in chief of Chicago magazine. “Our Culture Festival is a logical extension of our arts coverage.”
Each ticketed event will bring 400 attendees together with notable and breakout stars via five unique programs:
- Architecture: The State of Chicago Architecture moderated by Sarah Herda: Hear local architects Jeanne Gang and Stanley Tigerman discuss the city’s evolving architectural legacy on the eve of the inaugural Chicago Architecture Biennial.
- Literature: The Thrilling World of Gillian Flynn
The author of best-selling thriller Gone Girl will reveal secrets behind her dynamic writing style and will talk about upcoming projects, including television.
- Theater: A New Frontier for Steppenwolf
Steppenwolf’s new artistic director Anna Shapiro and actor Frank Galati will discuss the future of the Steppenwolf Theater followed by a reading from the upcoming play East of Eden.
- Comedy: A Lincoln Lodge Reunion
Stand-up comedians including Pete Holmes, Liza Treyger, and Kyle Kinane will talk about their comedic roots and upcoming projects in addition to performing a short set.
- Music: An Evening with Angel Olsen
The indie rock singer/songwriter will discuss her Midwestern influences, upcoming projects, and more before performing an intimate set from her most recent LP, Burn Your Fire For No Witness. Each ticket to the music program will grant attendees access to a complimentary cocktail party presented by Celebrity Cruises and featuring Vitani cocktails, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, and 90+ Cellars wine.
