The Royal Opera House Cinema Series Presents Giuseppe Verdi’s Nabucco Starring Plácido Domingo Available In Select U.S. Movie Theaters Beginning May 15, 2014

image001The Royal Opera House Cinema Season is bringing Nabucco, a genre-defining masterwork containing some of the greatest choral music, arias and ensembles ever written, to more than 130 cinemas in the United States, beginning Thursday, May 15, 2014. The opera is based on the biblical story of King Nebuchadnezzar (Nabucco) and focuses on his imprisonment of the Hebrews, his struggle against his unscrupulous daughter, Abigaille, his divine punishment and his final salvation.

Directed by Daniele AbbadoNabucco stars the incomparable Plácido Domingo in the title role and is a rare opportunity for American audiences to see him perform from the world-renowned Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Set in the second half the 20thcentury Abbado’s production makes imaginative use of large-scale video projections to accompany and reflect the action on stage.

Giuseppe Verdi’s rich score offers melody, power and raw drama on a scale that does justice to the opera’s epic themes of nationhood, faith, love and redemption and calls upon the full might of the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House and Royal Opera Chorus, seen and heard to full effect on the big screen.
