Goodman Theatre’s Scenemakers Board, the young professionals group that supports the theater through audience development and advocacy, hosts three fundraising events and welcomes four new members in 2013/2014—the group’s 11thseason. An auxiliary board of 33 (membership roster follows) under the leadership of President Lauren Blair, the Scenemakers contributed $70,000 last year to support the Goodman’s new play development initiatives and Education and Community Engagement programming. The 2013/2014 Season’s three events include: “A Christmas Carol (Technically Speaking)” on November 14; “Buzzer and Beer” on March 6, 2014; and the Scenemakers’ signature fundraiser, the 3rd annual “Scene Soiree” onJune 21, 2014. All events except the Scene Soiree take place at the Goodman.
“This season, the Scenemakers and our event-goers head even further behind-the-scenes of the Goodman,” said Scenemakers Board President Lauren Blair. “I’m incredibly proud of the ways in which we’ve contributed to works and programs on stage and off, and that we’re providing a unique way for young professionals in Chicago to support groundbreaking art.”

The Scenemakers’ signature fundraiser, the Scene Soiree, started in 2012, and in 2013 drew more than 300 of Chicago’s foremost young professionals and raised $45,000 towards the Goodman Theatre’s General Theatre Studies (GTS) Summer Program for Chicago youth. An evening of music from one of Chicago’s hottest DJs, artistically blended cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction featuring exclusive items. All proceeds once again benefit GTS, which gives students aged 14 to 19 the opportunity to develop critical thinking, literacy and storytelling and skills from local theater professionals.
