The Harry Potter movie franchise may have come to an end (though there are rumblings to the contrary) but followers of the Hogwarts tribe need not worry because Potted Potter, The Unauthorized Harry Potter Experience, is keeping the characters alive and well in this hilarious and heartwarming parody. Creators/performers Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner have come up with the most brilliant of concepts in “re-telling” all seven of J.K. Rowling’s mega hit novels in seventy minutes.
With an audience demographic that runs from the very young to the more mature fan, Potted Potter is a laugh fest unlike anything currently in the theatre marketplace; incorporating vaudeville, stand-up and legitimate theatre. From the moment Dan and Jeff hit the stage, you are instantly bonded with them. Their personalities are transcendent and their chemistry instant. At times they will remind you of Harvey Korman and Tim Conway with the way they can make each other crack up, even after hundreds of performances in both the UK and New York under their belt.
Mr. Clarkson and Mr. Turner, both former CBBC television hosts (British Broadcasting Company’s children’s network) , weave the tale of Harry and his mates with great humor but at no time to they ever disrespect the material nor the hardcore fans of the novels and films, of which the audience was filled. The kicker is that you do not even have had to read or viewed a Harry Potter book or film to be fully engaged with this production because it stands alone as a fully functioning comedy show. The gags are hilarious and the material is continually fresh, as many of the punch lines change each night depending on the audience feedback and interaction.
Dan and Jeff make Potted Potter more than just a must see parody piece, but rather delivers a unique theatre piece incorporating classic elements of the theatre of the absurd. This is also a great alternative to families who are looking for a Christmas Carol alternative. Dumbledore would be very proud.
