Local Chicago favorite and graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Music, Devin DeSantis, will be starring in The Juliet Letters at The Skokie Theater for two nights only, August 25th & 26th at 8 PM. He will be accompanied by The Mercutio String Quartet as they perform this hauntingly beautiful song sequence about love and life and death.
Inspired by a news story about a professor who had been responding to letters addressed to Juliet Capulet, c/o the post office in Verona, Italy, Elvis Costello and The Brodsky Quartet composed the music and lyrics for this song cycle set to chamber music. The songs relate to love in one way or another, covering a wide range of human emotions from betrayal and disillusionment to hopelessness and suicide. The lyrics reveal stories of both men and women, of varying ages and degrees of sanity, who have suffered some type of tragic disappointment or despair for which Juliet serves as a metaphor. The piece is melancholy, moody and sad, yet not without its moments of comic relief, and concludes with a song of condolence and hope.

DeSantis was most recently seen as Matthew in Altar Boyz at Drury Lane Water Tower, and is currently appearing as one of the Dromios in The Boys from Syracuse at Drury Lane Oakbrook. His other Chicago credits include appearances at the Marriott Theatre Lincolnshire, The Ravinia Festival, and Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, to name a few.
In a breathtaking performance, Devin and the Mercutio Quartet elicit the power and beauty inherent in this unusual work.
Tickets are $15.00. For information contact The Skokie Theatre at 847-677-7761, or visit their website, www.skokietheatre.com.
